And the first teaser trailer of House of the Dragon is here and boy, was it worth the wait! After a canceled spinoff series led by Namoi Watts, titled The Long Night, and a lot(tttt) of waiting, HBO has finally dropped what it has in store for Game of Thrones fans. And let’s just say, surviving that dud of a GoT finale is finally paying off! The surprise trailer was revealed at WarnerMedia’s HBO Max European launch event and it is the talk of the town because it is all about “Gods, kings, fire, and blood”.

House of the Dragon, based on author George R.R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’ focuses on House Targaryen, and is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones (read: the fall of the throne). Which is why when Matt Smith’s Prince Daemon Targaryen says, “dreams didn’t make us kings, dragons did” one is bound to believe! That, coupled with ominous music, hoards of easter eggs and references to the timeline including the kingpin, the teaser is unmissable. See the video here:

Needless to say, fans are over the moon and can hardly wait to see the dragons, the fire and the blood the show promises. In short, the House of the Dragon trailer is all over the internet and for obvious reasons.

The prequel also features Olivia Cooke, Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, and Sonoya Mizuno among others. If you need a breakdown; while Smith is playing the younger brother of King Viserys and heir to the throne, Considine is set to play King Viserys Targaryen. He is the chosen successor to King Jaehaerys Targaryen. D’Arcy has been cast as Rhaenyra Targaryen. Now, in House Highwater, Olivia Cooke is Alicent Hightower and Rhys Ifans is Otto Hightower.

If you’re not in the know, House Of The Dragon isn’t the only prequel on cards. HBO is also developing Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. The sequence of events here are set 90 years before A Song of Ice and Fire and will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg). Well, that and an animated GoT series on HBO Max.

House of the Dragon is coming to HBO and HBO Max in 2022.
