If you have not been living under a rock, you know that there exists a show called Squid Game. Chances are you’ve even watched (read binged through) it with breathers in between every episode to process everything. And boy, is there a lot! I don’t want to spoil it for you but the fact that you’re here hints that you’ve at least watched one character die (and cried) in the grisly and graphic Korean survival drama. If there’s any truth to it, I want to let you know – you’re not alone. Yours truly is equally scared and has trauma from the bloody, twisted dystopian thriller where hundreds of cash-strapped players accept a strange invitation to compete in children’s games for a tempting prize but with deadly high stakes. Literally!

Putting it plainly – people are obsessed with it. So much so that the K-drama, which was first released on September 17, and has since gone on to become the first South Korean series to top the US Netflix chart. In fact, Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos was quoted by CNET saying, “There’s a show on Netflix right now that is the No. 1 in the world, like everywhere in the world. It’s called Squid Game. Squid Game will definitely be our biggest non-English language show in the world, for sure. There’s a very good chance it’s going to be our biggest show ever.” “We did not see that coming, in terms of its global popularity,” he added.

Honestly, we can see why because the internet is filled with Squid Game memes. From ‘red light, green light’ girl to sugar candy, these ‘Squid Game’ memes are as killer as the games in the show. I mean nobody is laughing but sharing trauma might help? See for yourself.

Meanwhile, Squid Game writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk has spoken about the possibility of a sequel. While he admitted that he doesn’t “have well developed plans for Squid Game 2”, the good news is that the possibility of a second season has not been ruled out yet. He told Variety, “It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.”
