Can you imagine a life without doom scrolling on the internet? No tacky reels to the same song? No barrage of texts about a rumour on the family group chat? No, cringe-worthy memories popping up on Facebook? Wait, who am I kidding? Nobody uses FB anymore! But nothing changes the fact that the world didn’t have to imagine the above-mentioned scenario because it all became true for the longest outage of 6 hours and more. Maybe, just maybe if FB hadn’t gone on an overdrive and bought out every competitor. Like AOC put it, “It’s almost as if Facebook’s monopolistic mission to either own, copy, or destroy any competing platform has incredibly destructive effects on free society and democracy.”
To the huge community of people and businesses around the world who depend on us: we’re sorry. We’ve been working hard to restore access to our apps and services and are happy to report they are coming back online now. Thank you for bearing with us.

But I’m digressing; the entire world felt the pangs of the global outage that cyber security experts are saying happened because the online routes that lead people to the social giant were disrupted. According to Cloudflare, a website security company, a traffic routing problem that made the sites unreachable by users made Facebook’s family of apps essentially disappear from the internet for several hours. Although it got back later, and in India in the early hours of Tuesday morning, the memes about it are still up and coming in.
Yes, people got on Twitter to rant about Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and circulate memes to go through the same. Hey, can you blame them? Result is a madhouse of memes. From Squid Game editions to Mark Zuckerberg memes, it’s an array of sorts. See for yourself.

Meanwhile, Facebook has apologized for the inconvenience in a statement which read “Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centers caused issues that interrupted this communication.”
“We want to make clear at this time we believe the root cause of this outage was a faulty configuration change. We also have no evidence that user data was compromised as a result of this downtime,” it added.
