‘My Universe’ Video: BTS X Coldplay Are The New Guardians Of Galaxy Who Prove Music Has No Boundaries

And the music video for BTS X Coldplay My Universe is finally out and it is everything one expected to be and more! After releasing the audio on September 24, the K-pop icons and British rock band have come together via holograms and it is out of the world. Quite literally! The video starts by setting up the story of an intergalactic escapade that proves that music is without borders. In fact, it starts with a note that reads, “Once upon a time, many years from now… Music is forbidden across the spheres. On three different planets, three different bands defy the ban. DJ Lafrique, on her alien radio ship, unites them via Holoband. All the while, they are hunted by the Silencers.”

It is sci-fi, it is futuristic, it is slick but more than anything it is a wave of joy where love and music comes together to spread the same joy in a world that has unfortunately been silenced. Much like our current world that was forced to isolate. Many scenes look like they are straight out of James Cameron and Steven Spielberg movies but only with great music. Not just that even the small details like the Coronavirus-inspired design of the enemy ship to the Angel Moon aliens who are known for their kindness (something that the world needs more of), are so well-considered. There is also some flirting involved…

Needless to say, ARMY is excited to finally catch glimpses of the video with a tune that they have been obsessed with. In fact, many fans are calling the boy bands the new Guardians of the Galaxy with Marvel-level production, you know for the vibe and other obvious reasons and hey can you blame them. See for yourself.

Earlier, BTS leader RM, in a 12 minute documentary, said that Chris Martin had revealed how he was frustrated about being unable to perform live in concerts and said, “I thought about how to make this relevant to BTS. Since the lyrics go, ‘You are my universe,’ this song should definitely be dedicated to ARMY. I wrote the lyrics while picturing the day we reunited with ARMY,” RM said. Meanwhile, Martin opened up about their collaboration and added, “It’s very special to me that the most popular artistes in the world speak Korean and are like a group of brothers, not from the West. It feels very hopeful to me, in terms of thinking of the world as one family. Then of course, when you see who they are and their songs, it’s really a message of togetherness, and being yourself.”

If you’re not in the know, BTS is gearing up for their first in-person concert in two whole years after the 2020 Map of the Soul tour was canceled in the wake of the pandemic. They are returning to Los Angeles with Permission to Dance on Stage. Reportedly, they will perform four shows at the Sofi Stadium on November 27- 28 and December 1-2. I’m nowhere near LA but this will have to do for now!
