Chandigarh-based actor/model Harnaaz Sandhu, who won the prestigious Miss Universe 2021 crown earlier this month, in a recent interview with NDTV, expressed her desire to essay the iconic role of DC’s Catwoman. While previous Miss Universe crown winners, Sushmita Sen (1994) and Lara Dutta (2000), have made a career in Bollywood, Sandhu too aspires to become a successful actor one day.

While fans continue to celebrate Sandhu’s historic win, a section of netizens slammed pageant host Steve Harvey for requesting the 21-year-old Chandigarh-based model/actress to impersonate a cat on the international stage. While many termed it ‘inappropriate’, Sandhu came out in Harvey’s support and stated that she wasn’t offended by his request and it actually helped her gain more confidence on the stage. “Why do you think it is inappropriate for a beauty pageant? If you think beauty pageants are all about perfection, then I am sorry to say, it is not like that. I am happy that Steve, such a spontaneous and wonderful personality, asked me such a question that I could be myself on the stage and I got to showcase one of my big talents,” Sandhu said.

During the same interaction, Sandhu was even quizzed if she would like to essay the character of Catwoman on the silver screen one day, to which she instantly agreed and even hailed it as a ‘strong character’. “I am a person who is a strong advocate for women’s empowerment and this is my vision. One of my passion is acting and breaking the stereotypes at the same time by choosing strong characters of what women are and can be,” Sandhu added.

Harnaaz Sandhu, who bagged earned several titles in the domestic circuit before winning the Miss Universe 2021 title at the Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel, brought the title coveted back home after almost two decades. And with two Punjabi projects already in her kitty, she could soon make her presence felt in Bollywood as well.
