The shops, homes and other buildings in the Jahangirpuri area in Delhi were demolished by several bulldozers which were accompanied by police. The mob attack started at 10 AM and despite receiving the status quo order from the Supreme Court, the demolishing continued till the afternoon.
Amid the Jahangirpuri demolition, actors and filmmakers took to Twitter to share their reactions on the microblogging platform. Actor Richa Chadha and Swara Bhasker reacted to the situation in Jahangirpuri while screenwriter Kanika Dhillon shared a poem on Twitter and captioned it as “Ek bulldozer ki choti si kahaani. #JahagirpuriViolence”
Kanika also added that if only one community is the target and the shops and homes that were demolished belong to them, then this bulldozer will affect our “history, conscience and constitution”. She also said that it takes a lot of years and hard work to build buildings, houses and shops but it just takes a few seconds to get destroyed by people.
The Supreme Court has put a stay order on the demolition and such activity cannot be done until the next hearing which has been scheduled for after two weeks.
