Korean drama Squid Game has become a global phenomenon, and the numbers shared by Netflix, earlier this month, is proof of its immense popularity. Not only did it beat Bridgerton to become Netflix’s biggest series ever, but the dystopian drama has also inspired several memes and challenges on the internet. And given the ongoing trend of Squid Game on social media, Indian Railways has also joined the bandwagon as they shared a Squid Game referenced message to raise awareness about Covid-19.

Taking to the microblogging site, the Ministry of Railways shared a quirky tweet featuring the popular doll from Squid Game with a message highlighting three rules to beat Covid-19. “Three Rules to defeat COVID19: Get yourself vaccinated, Always wear mask in public places, Frequently use sanitiser #Unite2FightCorona” they captioned it while urging everyone to follow them seriously. Needless to say, the tweet instantly grabbed everyone’s attention, and within no time, the quirky Covid-19 awareness tweet shared by the Ministry of Railways was viral on the internet.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time that the Netflix Korean drama reference has been used to promote public awareness. A few days back, Mumbai Police had shared a Squid Game inspired tweet reminding people to follow traffic rules. “You are the ‘frontman’ of your ‘game’ on the road: you can save yourself from getting eliminated. Stop at red lights. #SafetyNotAGame #EliminateSpeedGames” Mumbai Police tweeted.

While Netflix announced Squid Game as the biggest ever series with 111 million views, the latest report by Bloomberg suggested that the giant online streaming platform expects the survival drama to generate nearly $900 million. Netflix head-honcho Ted Sarandos had also praised the Korean drama last month and hailed it as one of the biggest non-English shows on the streaming platform. “There’s a show on Netflix right now that is the No. 1 in the world, like everywhere in the world. It’s called Squid Game,” he said.
