Germany’s retail turnover in March 2022 down 0.1% MoM

The real (price-adjusted) turnover of retail enterprises in Germany was 0.1 per cent lower and their nominal (not price-adjusted) turnover was 2.1 per cent higher, on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis, in March 2022 compared with February 2022, according to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

Retail turnover in real terms has thus stagnated from the beginning of the year as the decline in March offset the increase in February 2022 (+0.1 per cent on January 2022).

The real turnover of retail enterprises in Germany was 0.1 per cent lower and their nominal turnover was 2.1 per cent higher, on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis, in March 2022 compared with February 2022, according to provisional results of Destatis. Retail turnover in real terms has thus stagnated from the beginning of the year.

Compared with March 2021, retail trade recorded a 2.7 per cent decrease in turnover in real terms and a nominal increase of 3.1 per cent. The difference between the results in real and nominal terms reflects the high price increases in retail trade, according to Destatis.
