Specially-abled Chess player, Malika Handa, who has won a gold and two silver medals at the World Deaf Chess Championships, has lashed out at the Punjab Government for failing to fulfil their promise. In the heartbreaking video, Handa revealed that Punjab Sports Minister Pargat Singh has denied the cash reward and job opportunity promised to her by the previous Punjab government stating that the state government doesn’t have any such policy for deaf sports.

Taking to Twitter, Handa penned a long note with an emotional video. She tweeted, “I am very feeling Hurt. 31 dec I met sports minister of Punjab Now He said Punjab Govt can not give job and Not cash award accept to (Deaf sports) because they do not have policy for deaf sports. Ex sports minister have announced cash award for me I also have letter of invitation in which I was invited but was cancelled due to covid. This thing when I told to present sports minister @pargat singh he told clearly it was ex-minister I did not announced and govt can not do.”

Handa, who has been requesting government officials for help since the past few months expressed her emotions and stated that she feels like a fool after all these years. “I am only asking why it was announced. My time waste 5 years on Congress govt. They fool me.. not care deaf person sports. District Congress all told me that supports, promised me after 5 years that happen is nothing now. Why why Punjab govt doing this? (sic)” she added.

While Handa’s tweet continues to gain momentum as netizens and media come out in her support, her message just reminds us of the sports personalities, who have come out in open and slammed state leaders on social media. Talking about a similar controversy, ace shooter Manu Bhaker had indulged in a heated war of words on social media with Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij. While the former continues to excel in shooting ranges and competitions around the globe, the controversy really gained everyone’s attention on the microblogging site.
