A magnificent win, an emotional one for sure, after trying their luck for two decades, the Indian women’s team lifted their maiden World Cup on November 2, 2025. A historic match, with Indian women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur taking the victorious catch that helped the team seal the deal. The Indian team won the World Cup with a 52-run victory over South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India.

After being sent into bat, the Indian women set a competitive total of 299 for South Africa in the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. India completed at 298 for 7. Indian openers Smriti Mandhana (45) and Shafali Verma (87) started positively to add 104 runs for the opening wicket. After Mandhana’s dismissal, Jemimah Rodrigues (24) and Shafali added 62 runs for the second wicket. Meanwhile, Shafali scored a career best 87 off 78 balls. South Africa was out for 246 in 45.3 overs in reply, with its chase effectively over after skipper Laura Wolvaardt was out for 101 runs off 98 balls.

After the 2005 match against Australia at Centurion and the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup final against England, the script changed in 2025. Shafali Verma’s fire and Deepti Sharma’s composure under pressure; India finally conquered the stage, clinching their maiden ICC title, joining New Zealand, Australia, and England as ODI world champions.
