Anyone who has ever lived in Mumbai knows that the city only has two seasons – a hot summer and a humid monsoon. Winter is almost non-existent. The cold lasts for a couple of days between January and February and before you know it, it’s already time to pack away the sweaters (if you needed them in the first place). This year, however, after a few showers of rains in January for crying out loud, the city recorded a sudden and significant drop in temperature. Surprise! Looks like winter is here.

If you felt the chill over the weekend and at the beginning of this week, you weren’t being imaginative. Turns out, Mumbai’s temperature dropped to 15.2 degrees Celsius in the city’s Colaba area as per reports from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Nagpur. On Sunday, the temperature was 18.2 degrees Celsius. Unsuspecting Mumbaikars awoke to what could be the coldest day of the winters this year and of course, desi Twitter (looking at you, North Indians) was there to remind us that it’s barely as cold as it gets in other parts of the country.

Nonetheless, it’s time to be very dramatic about the seasonal shift. From complaining about the cold to getting dragged for it, here’s what was trending on social media.

Speaking of the cold, everyone seems be down with it. As the winter coincides with what could be the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s even more important to keep track of any flu-like symptoms. Although there’s a good chance you’ll only need Dolo 650, it’s wise to stay home and stay safe.
