Uniqlo, the Japanese global apparel retailer, has announced its latest expansion plans in India, with the opening of its highly-anticipated first store in Mumbai, the de facto financial capital of India. Launching on October 6 at Phoenix Marketcity Mall in Kurla, Uniqlo will provide Mumbai customers a new shopping experience that offers its innovative, functional and high-quality apparel, developed under the brand’s LifeWear concept aims to make everyone’s life better.

“We are delighted to be launching in Mumbai this fall,” said Tomohiko Sei, chief executive officer, Uniqlo India. “October will also mark the anniversary of our four-year journey in India, and this new milestone highlights our strong, ongoing commitment to India. Until now, our customers in Mumbai have been using our e-commerce channel to shop for their LifeWear essentials, and we now look forward to welcoming them in person to our first Mumbai store.”

Uniqlo is expanding in India with the opening of its first store in Mumbai on October 6.
The store, located at Phoenix Marketcity Mall in Kurla, will offer innovative, functional, and high-quality apparel under Uniqlo’s LifeWear concept.
This marks a significant milestone for the brand’s global expansion, as Mumbai is India’s fastest-growing major economy.

Uniqlo Phoenix Marketcity will be the 11th brick-and-mortar Uniqlo store in India since launching in the country in 2019. To date, all Uniqlo stores in India have been located in the northern region of the country centered around New Delhi. The first store in Mumbai therefore represents a significant step in the company’s global expansion, bringing Uniqlo to the most populous city in the world’s fastest-growing major economy. The new store will be located in Kurla, a rapidly-growing suburb in eastern Mumbai that combines bustling businesses, exciting entertainment options, and a vibrant youth culture, the company said in a press release.

Uniqlo’s global journey began with its first London store in 2001, and today there are more than 2,400 Uniqlo stores located across the world, with the majority located outside Japan. Since opening its first store in Hiroshima in 1984, Uniqlo has created apparel that comes from the Japanese values of simplicity, quality, and longevity, featuring universal designs, supreme fit and comfort with the aim to improve the daily lives of its customers.
