Google is leaving no stone unturned in making sure its boss feels safe. This involves big bucks, which is near about the CEO’s annual compensation.
Alphabet and its subsidiary Google’s desi CEO Sundar Pichai earned $10.73 million in FY 24, which is $8.8 million up from FY 23. The hefty package comes as no surprise for the boss of the tech behemoth that has been at the forefront of everything digital, from search to AI and more.
But wait, there’s more.
Per the SEC filing by the Silicon Valley giant, the company spent $8.27 million (or INR 70 crore) on Pichai’s security in 2024. This is 22% up from the previous figure of $6.78 million in 2023.
Per Alphabet’s 2025 proxy statement, this expense includes Pichai’s “residential security and consultation fees, security monitoring services, car and driver services, and personal security during all travel.” The statement further reads, “We believe these arrangements and costs are reasonable, appropriate, necessary, and in the best interests of Alphabet and its stockholders, as they mitigate risks to our business.” Per Alphabet, these security measures are of no personal benefit to Sundar; rather, they “arise from the nature of his employment responsibilities.”
The cold-blooded murder of UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson on December 4, 2024, by Luigi Mangione has led to a surge in security expenses for several S&P 500 companies. However, it is not clear if that is the factor why the Google boss was accorded more security than a year back.
