Squid Game Tops Netflix’s All-Time Series Launch With 111 Million Views Since Debut

With less than a month since its release (Sept. 17), Netflix’s Korean survival drama Squid Game has surpassed Bridgerton to become the giant online streaming platform’s biggest series launch. The Netflix series became a phenomenon overnight, and since its release, it has also managed to maintain the top spot on Netflix ‘Top 10’ section in many countries. Despite featuring many violent and grisly scenes, the gripping and entertaining storyline has managed to strike a chord with the audience, who in return have flooded the internet with excitement. While Netflix users continue to praise the show and share their views about the Korean drama, the internet also offers a series of hilarious memes inspired by the Netflix series.

A few weeks earlier, Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos had speculated that the Korean survival drama could become one of the most popular shows on their platform, Netflix recently took to Twitter to confirm that it has become their biggest series launch with 111 million views. “Squid Game has officially reached 111 million fans — making it our biggest series launch ever!” Netflix tweeted.

A recent CNN report also suggests that Squid Game has overthrown Bridgerton by a huge margin to grab the top spot. While the period English drama had reached 82 million views in the first 28 days, the Korean dystopian drama has clocked 111 million views in just 25 days to become Netflix’s biggest series launch.

The meteoric success of Squid Game has earned it a nod to quality for upcoming Emmy nominations as well. Not only that but the immense popularity of the world has also inspired a real-life event in UAE where fans would be able to participate in the games shown in the series (minus the bloodshed).
