After sweeping the 2020 Oscars with his black comedy thriller ‘Parasite’, filmmaker Bong Joon Ho is all set to collaborate with Warner Bros for a sci-fi movie based on Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel. According to Hollywood Reporter, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker will be writing and directing the project, and in addition to that, Joon Ho is also expected to produce the untitled movie as well. Interestingly, the report also stated that Joon Ho and Warner Bros are currently in talks with Robert Pattinson to essay the lead role in the untitled project.
While the makers are yet to make an official announcement about the project, Edward Ashton’s book titled ‘The Martian meets Dark Matter’ is expected to roll out next month. Meanwhile, the novel’s plot is reported to revolve around Mickey7, a man on an expedition to colonize the ice world Niflheim. And the fact that this expendable employee can regenerate himself as a clone with most of his memories intact after his death is what makes the script pretty interesting.
The Korean director has been one of the most-talked-about filmmakers in the entertainment circuit since his last release ‘Parasite’, which took home Best Director, Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film at the 2020 Oscars. While Bong Joon Ho has finally narrowed down on a subject after almost two years, it’ll be interesting to see his adaptation of Ashton’s sci-fi novel.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Pattinson is all set to essay the character of Bruce Wayne aka Batman in Matt Reeves’ action-drama ‘The Batman’. While the Twilight alum is all set to join the DC Extended Universe as the Caped Crusader, the much-awaited movie is all set to release on March 4. Apart from Pattinson, ‘The Batman’ also features Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Peter Sarsgaard and Colin Farrell in key roles.
