After almost three years of software upgrades, OnePlus has discontinued support for the popular OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T smartphones.

Both the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T were released in 2018, and according to OnePlus’ statement, neither device will be upgraded to OxygenOS 12, which is based on Android 12. OnePlus announced the news on its community forum.

OnePlus announced earlier in 2021 that its Software Maintenance Schedule will be updated to include three major Android releases as well as four years of security patches for premium OnePlus phones. Only the newer OnePlus 8 and subsequent smartphones will be covered by this Software Maintenance Schedule.

OnePlus, on the other hand, has already released two new smartphones this month: the OnePlus 10 Pro and the OnePlus 9RT. While the OnePlus 9RT will be available in India, the company has yet to disclose when the OnePlus 10 Pro would be available.

According to several rumors, the initial flash sale of the 10 Pro sold out in China. It’s now evident that the November update was scheduled to be the last one for the two devices.

The smartphones got three major updates and more than three years of software updates, as well as many Closed and Open Beta releases, according to the community post in which OnePlus formally stopped software support for the devices. The devices will lose software support, but they will continue to function normally since third-party developers will continue to offer applications and services.
