French actor Gaspard Ulliel, who was all set to join the Marvel Universe with the studios’ forthcoming series ‘Moon Knight’, passed away on Wednesday. Ulliel’s family confirmed the news and stated that he passed away following a skiing accident in the Alps. While Ulliel (37) was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital on Tuesday after his collision with another skier, the actor wasn’t able to recover from the head injury that he suffered from post the accident. While the other skier managed to escape the collision unharmed, reports making rounds on the internet suggest that local cops are already investigating the matter.

The two-time Cesar Award-winning actor was hailed as one of the best actors in French cinema. While the news of his untimely death rattled the entire world, French Prime Minister Jean Castex took to social media to mourn the loss of the actor. “Gaspard Ulliel grew up with cinema and cinema grew with him. They loved each other madly. It is with a heavy heart that we will now see his most beautiful interpretations and meet this certain look. We are losing a French actor,” he tweeted.

Best known for his performances in ‘Hannibal Rising’ and ‘Saint Laurent’, Ulliel was all set to essay the character of Midnight Man in Marvel’s upcoming TV series ‘Moon Knight’ starring Oscar Isaac, which will release in March. While the trailer of the series was recently dropped by the makers, earlier this week, Ulliel and Isaac’s performance had left fans on the edge of their seats.

Apart from French Prime Minister Jean Castex and fans, many other celebrities, who collaborated with Ulliel in the past took to their respective social media handles to pay tribute to the actor. Check them out here:
