Elon Musk Reveals Tesla’s Autopilot Team’s Head Is An Indian; Showers Ashok Elluswamy With Praise

The world’s richest man, who even earned the title of Time’s Person of the Year in 2021, Elon Musk is known for his inclination towards meme-based cryptocurrency, Dogecoin, and advanced technology. While the billionaire continues to share his views on social media about Dogecoin, Musk has also been pretty invested in his companies futuristic goals and visions. While SpaceX achieved the feat of carrying civilians to space in 2021 (Inspiration4 mission), Musk’s electric vehicle company, Tesla has also witnessed a good rise in its market value in the past few months. But what has grabbed everyone’s attention is Musk’s recent interview wherein he talked about Tesla’s Autopilot team’s first employee, who happens to be of an Indian origin.

Talking about the head of Tesla’s Autopilot team, Ashok Elluswamy, Musk in the interview said, “Ashok is actually the head of Autopilot engineering. Andrej is director of AI. People often give me and Andrej too much credit. Whereas the Tesla Autopilot AI team is extremely talented. Some of the smartest people in the world.” Furthermore, Musk also revealed that Ashok was the first person to be hired by him while responding to the tweet. “Ashok was the first person recruited from my tweet saying that Tesla is starting an Autopilot team!” Musk wrote.

Last year, Musk had replied to a tweet that talked about how top tech companies like Microsoft, Adobe, IBM, Google and others are managed by Indian CEOs after Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey stepped down from his position of CEO and was replaced by Parag Agarwal. “USA benefits greatly from Indian talent,” Musk commented.

Meanwhile, Ashok Elluswamy, who holds a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering and a Master’s degree in Robotics System Development is reported to be asscociated with Volkswagen Electronic Research Lab before joining Tesla Autopilot team.
