Rediroff.ru, a dangerous WhatsApp hoax, has been spreading for a few days. Fraudsters can acquire a WhatsApp user’s personal data as well as financial details which include bank and card details via social engineering techniques.

The spam link may infect Windows PCs as well as iOS and Android devices when Rediroff.ru is included in the URL. It’s unclear when the WhatsApp fraud began, but it impacted a huge number of individuals throughout the holiday season by enticing users with promises of pricey presents. WhatsApp’s payments feature is presently being rolled out in a large way across India’s heartland. Scammers share a link to WhatsApp users, and when they open it, they are sent to a website where they are told they may win a gift by filling out a fake survey.

After responding to questions, customers are sent to another page where they are asked to fill out confidential info such as their name, age, address, bank information, and other private details.

This information might be used in fraudulent activities or sold to criminals on the dark web. Fraudsters can exploit this information to send spam and damaging emails to people. On the user’s device, PUAs (potentially unwanted programmes) can also be loaded. Phishing websites use the user’s IP address to detect their location, then modify the language of the webpage and offer a number of fraudulent schemes tailored to their location.

When people see adverts in locations where they shouldn’t be and are referred to dubious sites when searching for anything on a browser, malware has already infiltrated their devices. They should delete the suspicious programmes from their devices at this point.
