bergApple’s most affordable smartphone, the iPhone SE (starting at $279 on Amazon), is expected to get its long-awaited 2022 update soon.

We’ve already covered several speculations and leaks, some of which have already indicated a summer release date as well as an unchanged external design for the so-called iPhone SE 3, which might potentially be called the iPhone SE 5G. In any case, the cheaper Apple smartphone is expected to include much better internals, including the Apple A15 Bionic chip.

Earlier, Macrumors had reported about the Ross Young’s announcement last year that the upcoming iPad mini will feature an 8.3-inch display and no home button. He was also the first to announce that the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros would have ProMotion displays. He is a highly reliable source of Apple-related product leaks, by which we mean he is a very dependable source of Apple-related product leaks. So there’s reason to believe the information he revealed this time is accurate as well.

Young expects the third-generation iPhone SE will be released in the second half of April, or early May at the latest, based on this production timeline. The iPhone SE first generation was released in March 2016, and the second-generation model will be released in April 2020.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will conduct an event in the early summer to unveil the redesigned iPhone SE and other new hardware. The AirTag, new iPad Pro and 24-inch iMac models powered by the M1 chip, a new Apple TV 4K, and a purple color option for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini were unveiled at an Apple event on April 20 last year.

The third-generation iPhone SE is likely to be similar to the current iPhone SE in terms of design, with a 4.7-inch display. The handset is expected to use the same A15 Bionic chip as the iPhone 13 models, as well as 5G capability.
