Akshay Kumar’s recent releases have failed to impress fans at the box office, however, he had given Hindi cinema many hits over the years. This is not the first time Akshay has seen a set of flops in his three-decade-long career. The actor during an interview revealed that the last time he saw many flops he had considered moving to Canada and starting over. Akshay also holds Canadian citizenship and is often trolled for the same.

During a recent interview, the Raksha Bandhan star opened up about his controversial citizenship in Canada and said, “I am an Indian, from India, and will always remain so.” He also added that many people have moved to Canada for work, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t Indians.

Akshay told Lallantop that he got his Canadian citizenship at a time when his films had stopped working. He added, “A few years ago, my films were not working. Almost 14-15 films had not worked so I thought I should probably move elsewhere and work there. A lot of people move there for work, but they are still Indians. So I also thought that if destiny is not supporting me here then I should do something about it. I went there, applied for it (the citizenship), and got it.”

However, the actor admitted that he decided to stay back. After his films picked up again, Akshay said, “Then I thought that I will stay in my country, never thought about moving again.”

Akshay still has a Canadian passport but pays his taxes in India, and believes that having a Canadian passport doesn’t change anything for him. “I pay all my taxes and pay them here. I have a choice to pay it there as well but I pay them in my country. I work in my country. A lot of people say things and they are allowed to. To them, I would just like to say that I am an Indian, and I will always be an Indian,” he added.
