South Korean actor Park Sung-hoon received global acclaim after starring in K-dramas like Queen Of Tears and Squid Game seasons 2 & 3. He recently opened up about shooting for his death sequence for the Hwang Dong-hyuk directorial and revealed he shot for yet another death sequence for Kim Ji-won and Kim Soo-hyun starrer, on the same day.
Opening up about the same, during a panel discussion with his Squid Game season 3 co-stars Yim Siwan, Kang Ae-sim, and Jo Yu-ri, the 40-year-old actor spoke about the fate his character met in the Netflix show. For those who don’t remember, he essayed the role of Player 120, Cho Hyun-ju, a transgender woman and former special forces soldier who wants to undergo gender affirming surgery.

Recalling the day they shot for Hyun-ju’s death sequence and the tragic death of the beloved character, the Free Press Journal quoted him recalling, “The director asked if I could drop a single tear before collapsing, and we got it in the first take.” He went on to reveal that it was on the same day he shot Hyun-ju’s death sequence in the Daejeon studio, he had to rush to Jeongseon, Gangwon-do, to shoot for the death scene of his antagonist character in Queen Of Tears, Yoon Eun-sung.
“It happened to fall on the same day. The emotional exhaustion from both scenes was overwhelming,” he shared.

For those who don’t know, Squid Game was inspired by Dong-hyuk’s personal economic struggles, the class divide in South Korea, and the violent Ssangyong strikes which took place in 2009. The series follows the journey of 456 players, desperate for money, who willingly risk their lives and play deadly kids’ games so that they can win a massive cash prize.
Produced by Han Heung-seok and Kim Ji-eun under the banner Siren Pictures Inc, Squid Game season 1 was released in 2021. While the second season was released in 2024, the third and final instalment was released in 2025. It starred Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, Yoo Seong-ju, Kim Si-hyun, Im Si-wan, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Yang Dong-geun, and Choi Hyun-Wook, among others. Squid Game is one of the most popular shows on Netflix.
