Low-Cost Airlines To Introduce Standing Seats From 2026 For More Passengers; Internet Drops Indian Local Train Memes

Several low-cost airlines are considering standing-only seats for shorter flights in 2026. The seating will feature a bicycle-style padded seat that allows the flyers to lean on it and not exactly settle their derriere on a comfy cushion.

The standing seats will allow for more space and thereby more passengers, ensuring more moolah to the airline. The seating setup has long been considered but never made it past regulatory hurdles.

A video of a standing seat has gone viral on X/Twitter, called the Sky Rider 2.0, that gives a bike-like seating experience. The travellers will be straddled to the seats for the entire duration of the flight. Watch the demo below.

Reactions poured in with netizens taking a jibe at the concept. Some users posted memes featuring the Indian railways. “Lets go Indian railway style,” jibed one, while another posted a picture of the configuration of a “slave ship.” One user hilaruously jibed, “If they hung everyone by their feet from the ceiling (like bats), they could get even more in there and the hooks are even lighter in weight than any chair.”

Safety during emergencies is a big concern for unconventional arrangements on a flight, especially with even mild turbulence. The flights will be cramped and too uncomfortable for the elderly.
