Disney Studios has unveiled the first look at its anticipated live-action film The Little Mermaid as well as the new Lion King prequel, and Snow White. The makers shared details about the projects at Disney EXPO while also revealing the cast and title of the films. While The Lion King prequel is titled Mufasa: Lion King, Snow White is set to star Rachel Zegler in the leading role alongside Gal Gadot as The Evil Queen.
Barry Jenkins who is set to direct Mufasa: Lion King revealed that the film will release in 2024. He also shared that the film will also feature young versions of characters Timon played by Billy Eichner, Pumbaa played by Seth Rogen and Rafiki. He said, “Mufasa was actually an orphaned cub who had to navigate the world alone by himself, and in telling this story, we get to experience the real journey of how Mufasa found his place in the circle of life.”

While the first looks have not been released publically yet, Zegler and Gal Gadot were happy with the audience reaction to their first look. Gadot said she loved going from Wonder Woman to a villain, “The fact that I could go cuckoo and crazy and dance, it was delightful.”

One of the teasers that were released to the world was The Little Mermaid as well as Disenchanted. The Little Mermaid director Rob Marshall said the new version will feature four new songs, and that he has a special fondness for the 1989 original. Led by Halle Bailey as Ariel, the cast includes Javier Bardem, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay and Melissa McCarthy. The film is slated for a May 26, 2023 release date.

Fans were also excited to see Rachel Adams return in the Disenchanted. The trailer revealed the story after a decade will take a bigger and badder twist. Disney reportedly also debuted details about a few Marvel projects for Disney+ but they are yet to be made public.
