Meta is shutting down its social networking program, Campus, which was introduced by Facebook in September 2020, less than two years after its inception. The software is aimed mainly at college students. The social media business first began the campus trial with 30 US students in September 2020, intending to provide a community space for any college or university students to put themselves out there and engage with friends or other students.
Meta sought to present consumers with a unique experience that would remind them of their college days because the epidemic kept everyone at home. The campus is going away shortly and will no longer be available after March 10,’ according to social media strategist Matt Navarra, who published an image of a notification on Twitter regarding the social networking app’s shutdown.

According to reports, Meta now has a number of endeavors, but its roots can be traced all the way back to 2004 when it gave a social media platform for Facebook to college students and teenagers. Meta’s reach is unrivaled, and with Facebook usage in developed markets trending down, it may now make more sense for Meta to focus on new uses, in new regions, as it looks to play a larger role in these countries’ digital transformation. As a result, it will be able to bring in more users to its metaverse experiences and move away from traditional apps.

Overall, it appears that the main motivation is re-aligning the company’s development focus on the next stage, rather than watching app trends and striving to outperform newcomers in the market. Because the market is poised to shift, and as a result, apps like Campus will become less relevant in a larger context. In the meanwhile, Facebook changed its name to Meta in October 2021, and the company’s focus has shifted from its social networking platform to the multi-tech metaverse since then.
