Spider-Man: No Way Home wasn’t just a box office triumph but also a moment that will perhaps go down in movie history. With three generations of Spider-Man stars – Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire getting together in a movie that also brought back some iconic Marvel villains, the film turned multiple fan theories into reality. Following its release in December 2021, many behind the scenes details have come to light. And the more we find out about it, the more we realise just how much work went into it. If you think the film was an emotional ride, you can only imagine how the cast must’ve felt filming for it. Luckily, they were eased into production.

In a recent interview with Variety, director Jon Watts has revealed that he held a “Spider-Man therapy session” ahead of filming for No Way Home. Before the scenes featuring Tom, Andrew and Tobey were shot, the three actors gathered for a conversation that doubled up as a therapy session of sorts. Watts revealed, “We sat on folding chairs in a circle and went through the script together. I had talked to everyone separately, but to have everyone together to talk about the story, how the pieces fit together and what Spider-Man meant to them – that was exciting for me.”

“We had the only three actors to ever play Spider-Man in a film, and each had been through so much, on and off screen,” Watts explained as he added, “because we had done that work ahead of time, when filming that first scene with everyone, it was great to take a step back and see the crew watching, like they were watching the movie.”

Watts who has directed Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home rightly describes the film as a “once-in-a-lifetime event”. No Way Home was filled with throwbacks, Easter eggs and full-blown tearjerkers. The film which also cast Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Marisa Tomei and more not only gave Holland’s Spider-Man a successful threequel but also cracked open the multiverse – an event that has far-reaching effects on the rest of the MCU.
