The Indian entertainment industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Satish Shah, who passed away on October 25, 2025, at the age of 74 due to kidney failure. His health deteriorated at home, leading to his admission to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai, where he breathed his last. The funeral rites, held on Sunday morning at his residence, drew a gathering of family, colleagues, and fans.
Shah’s departure marks the end of an era for comedy in Indian television and cinema. Renowned for his portrayal of the Indravadan Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Shah brought wit and charm to the screen. His filmography spans decades, including memorable roles in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Judwaa, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and Main Hoon Na. Beyond the small screen, his work in series like All the Best cemented him as a beloved figure.
The funeral saw an outpouring of grief from his on-screen family in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. Sumeet Raghavan, who played Sahil Sarabhai, arrived early, visibly moved as he honored his “eldest family member.” In a heartfelt Instagram post, Raghavan wrote, “Today, the eldest member of the Sarabhai family has left us… As the eldest son of this family, I accept all your condolences on behalf of us. And to Dad, I just want to say, so long, Dada. Safe travels, and see you on the other side.” Joining him was Rajesh Kumar, who played Rosesh Sarabhai, who shared his devastation online: “This is the worst hour for me… I still cannot process that Satish ji is no more… all I can say is that it feels I have lost my father… A man full of life n humour… this is a big big loss to the industry and us (Sarabhai’s family). Let’s pray for his departed soul and keep him in your prayers.”
Rupali Ganguly, known for her role as Monisha Sarabhai, reached the venue in a state of sorrow, shielding her tears from the media as she entered to pay her respects. Ratna Pathak Shah, who portrayed the sophisticated Maya Sarabhai opposite Shah, was also present.
Jackie Shroff joined the attendees, while Dilip Joshi from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah made his way to the residence. Celebrities including Kajol, R. Madhavan, Karan Johar, and Anupam Kher shared condolences on social media. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi weighed in with a public statement on X: “Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Satish Shah Ji. He will be remembered as a true legend of Indian entertainment.
