Reliance mogul Mukesh Ambani visited the renowned Guruvayur Sri Krisna temple in Kerala on September 17th. Accompanied by Radhika Merchant, the fiancee of his younger son Anant Ambani, the billionaire offered prayers. Ambani donated Rs 1.51 crore to the Guruvayur temple which is incidentally the highest ever by any devotee.

At the temple, Mukesh Ambani made his offerings to the temple elephants Chenthamarakshan and Balaraman. In the inner sanctum ‘Sopanam’ of the temple, Ambani along with his family offered ghee. Post his prayer rituals, the industrialist offered a cheque of Rs 1.51 crore to the temple as a Kannika (offering). Dr K V Vijayan, the chairman of Guruvayur Devaswom Board was startled when he opened the envelope. Dr Vijayan stated that Ambani wanted the amount to be used for Annadanam – a practice of offering food to the devotees. He also mentioned that the RIL Chairman said he will ‘consider’ when presented with the plan of a new medical centre in the temple costing around Rs 50 crores. Meanwhile the board chairman offered Mr Ambani with a mural painting as a token of gratitude.

Mukesh Ambani remains the second richest in India and Asia after losing his spot to bete noir Gautam Adani. Adani’s ascent to become the second richest in the world has been very dramatic. While American billionaires are bleeding in billions, Adani’s conglomerate is on a roll. Adani’s company has become India’s most valued venture. Whereas Amabni’s Reliance is the third most valued company in the country.

Here’s a couple of reactions to Ambani’s darshan of Guruvayur temple.
