Amid controversy and protest over ‘The Lady of Heaven’ last week UK cinema chain, Cineworld has confirmed that it’s canceling the screening of the movie. The protest started after a Muslim activist claimed that the movie is offensive and irreligious. Just in case you don’t know, the movie is based on the story of Fatima, daughter of Prophet Muhammad.

The protest against the movie was picketed by the protesters across the United Kingdom which also include Birmingham and Bolton. Cineworld took the decision of canceling the screenings to ensure that the staff and customers are safe and they didn’t face any issues due to the protest.

It seems that protesters are out on the road with banners and signs reading “It’s not OK to offend 1.8 billion #handsoffoursuperheroes” and “Stop the screening.”

According to Malik Shlibak, people are free to criticize the movie and share their opinion about why they dislike the film, but stepping on the roads protesting against the movie has “overstepped boundaries”. Over 117,000 people have signed a petition seeking the UK government orders to remove the movie from the cinemas.

“The film directly disrespects Prophet Muhammad who is depicted by an actor, deeply shocking and disrespectful to the best of creation. It is also a deeply racist film with all the main negative characters being portrayed by black actors. Furthermore, it also portrays the companions of our Prophet Muhammad in a bad manner,” reads the petition.
