The chatter around TV shows has now hit the roof! We are talking about a time in our lives where a Korean show about debt-ridden people getting killed playing school yard games has become a global phenomenon. But this not another article about Squid Game or collective trauma is catchy as hell. This is about many such shows, a collection that celebrates the best. And thanks to BBC Culture’s poll that has revealed the 100 best TV shows of the 21st century, we now have one! While we have seen similar lists about films, it was about time that we recognized and acknowledged game changing TV shows for “we have relied on it for information, entertainment, solace and inspiration in equal measure.” But how?

They polled 206 TV experts and industry figures from 43 countries, who voted 460 series and the result is an array of shows with the biggest cultural footprint and ones that lead to bigger conservations. That and/or are least are super entertaining. BBC also breaks down the figures; out of 206, 100 were women, 104 were men, and two were non-binary. Each voter listed their 10 favourite TV series of the 21st Century. BBC then scored and ranked to produce the top 100.

Which is why shows like Game Of Thrones and Money Heist have made it to the list. Having said that; the top spot has been reserved for HBO’s The Wire starring the late Michael K Williams, Dominic West, John Doman, Idris Elba, Frankie Faison and others. The second spot goes to John Hamm’s period drama Mad Men and on the third spot is crime series Breaking Bad which features Bryan Cranston in the lead role. Fleabag comes next, the brainchild of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and even trumps GoT unsurprisingly which stands on the fifth position. Other notable names in the list are The Crown, Stranger Things, Narcos, Chernobyl and Schitt’s Creek.
