The ongoing season of the Indian Premier League is turning out to be one of the most entertaining seasons of all time. With favourites Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at the bottom of the points table, and newly introduced teams (Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans) making a huge impact, fans are having a gala time seeing new cricket drama unfold on the field every day.
While yesterday’s nail-biting match between Rajasthan Royals vs Lucknow Super Giants left everyone on the edge of their seats, commentators Sunil Gavaskar and Alan Wilkins’ quirky banter also grabbed everyone’s attention. While the latter praised Marine Drive, also known as the ‘Queen’s Necklace’, the Indian veteran cricketer quickly slipped in a comment involving the ‘Kohinoor Diamond’. “We’re still awaiting the Kohinoor Diamond,” Gavaskar replied, leaving his British commentary partner in laughter. Check out their conversation here:
Sunil Gavaskar just teased @Swannyg66 for Kohinoor Diamond.π If British Government really does it , India would accept it wholeheartedly on its 75th birthday. #IPL2022 #RRvLSG pic.twitter.com/2yrmuFrYJ2

Needless to say, Gavaskar’s comment instantly became the talk of the town, and within no time, Twitter was flooded with comments from animated fans and users. Check out a few reactions here:
Sunil Gavaskar just asked fellow commentator @alanwilkins22 to return the Kohinoor. βIf you have any influence, maybe you can ask the Queen to return it.β

Thank you, Sunil Gavaskar, for reminding Alan Wilkins about the Kohinoor diamond stolen by the British, for the latter could not stop going gaga over the ‘Queen’s Necklace’, or what we know as the Marine Drive.

Only Sunny G can ask an English commentator to ask his government to return the Kohinoor they stole from India on national television. Savage! ππ#IPL2022

A lot of people have demanded to get the Kohinoor back to India but I don’t think anyone has asked it as cheekily as Sunil Gavaskar on Global Feedπ#RRvsLSG #IPL2022 #Kohinoor

Sunil Gavaskar’s ‘Kohinoor’ diamond comment wasn’t the only highlight from last night as Indian all-rounder R Ashwin became the first player in the history of IPL to tactically ‘retire out’. While the veteran cricketers share a good bond, their ‘Kohinoor’ diamond banter during the Rajasthan Royals vs Lucknow Super Giants match did grab a lot of attention.
