Denying reports that termed Indonesia’s textile and textile products (TPT) industry as a declining one, industry minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita recently said the sector’s performance is bouncing back. Statistics show compared to the second quarter of 2021, the third quarter recorded a 4 per cent increase. He was visiting a textile factory in Bandung district in West Java.
Textile exports between January and October this year also increased by 19 per cent and investment in the textile industry also rose by 12 per cent to Rp5.06 trillion, Kartasasmita remarked.
The ministry also encourages the textile industry sector to contribute to its acceleration programme, specifically targeting import substitution to reach 35 per cent, a news agency reported. Import substitution now is only 13-14 per cent, a news agency reported.
