Apple launched a big iOS 15.3 update containing a crucial security fix to all eligible iPhones on Wednesday (January 26). iOS 15.3 and iPadOS 15.3 are the most recent software updates from Apple for mobile devices. For Apple-supported devices, the upgrades should already be available.

As per reports, the most recent release fixes a memory corruption problem that was being aggressively exploited. Another flaw in the WebKit version of the Safari browser is it allows any website that used a certain JavaScript application programming interface (API) to access the names of databases created by other websites during the same browsing session. While Safari was open, this issue allowed a cleverly constructed malicious site to snoop on other sites.

Besides, personal information might be exposed since some websites employ user-specific identifiers in their database names. Whereas the iOS 15.3 and iPadOS 15.3 upgrades do not add any new features, they do address several security problems that might lead to personal information being public.

The Cupertino-based tech company apparently removed support for iOS 14 with the iOS 15.3 and iPadOS 15.3 releases. Those who were still on iOS 14 were not urged to upgrade until the latest release of iOS 15.2.1. Users who haven’t updated to iOS 15.3 on a compatible device are now being urged to do so.

The new iOS 15.3 update might be as much as 1.06GB in size, depending on the iPhone model. Due to multiple weaknesses in iCloud, WebKit, Kernel, and model I/O, certain malicious programs were able to achieve primary root access.

Surprisingly, some were actively abused, and device users are now being encouraged to apply the update quickly or risk being hacked. iPadOS 15.3 and watchOS 8.4 have been released for all eligible iPads and Smart Watch Series 3 and latest, respectively.
