Amazon Prime Video is all set to release Gehraiyaan. Starring Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa alongside Naseeruddin Shah and Rajat Kapur, the film is one of the most anticipated titles streaming this year. The trailer of the Shakun Batra directorial which was unveiled yesterday teased a tale of complex relationships. In it, Deepika Padukone plays a woman who finds herself in a tricky situation. And if you ask the actress, the “raw and relatable” role wasn’t easy.

Gehraiyaan is a romance drama that explores infidelity. Padukone’s character Alisha is a 30-year-old in a monotonous relationship. When she meets her cousin Tia (played by Ananya Panday) and her fiancé Zain (played by Siddhant Chaturvedi) they soon develop a bond. The film has its share of intimate scenes. Deepika opened up about the myriad of challenges that presented during the trailer launch. She explained, “I don’t think it would be possible without the comfort that he [director Shakun Batra] has given all of us. You feel you are working in an extremely safe and secure environment because intimacy is not easy. It is not something that we have ever experienced or explored in Indian cinema before, in the way we have in this film.”

She also revealed that she had to draw from her own experiences to play Alisha. “I think, for me, this character is a lot more raw and a lot more real than some of the other characters that I have played. Emotionally, it is completely stripped and naked in that sense, and completely vulnerable. I think to be able to do that on screen, it has to come from a very deep place. It is not to say that I haven’t experienced that before. But, not to this extent, where I have to really dig deep and go to the places that aren’t really that pleasant, and are not really pleasant experiences from my own life,” she said.

The official synopsis of Gehraiyaan reads – Alisha Khanna, 30, ambitious, now finds herself at a crossroads in life. Her six year long relationship has grown monotonous, her career seems to be hitting a lot of roadblocks and justwhen she had begun to accept this reality as unchangeable, her life is usurped by the arrival of her cousin, Tia and her fiancé, Zain, with whom she bonds over a troubled past and a common wish to break from its confines. The story charts the journey of Alisha and Zain, as they confront the ghost of their past on the path they take to avoid it.

Gehraiyaan will release on Amazon Prime Video on February 11, 2022.
