It is no news that Facebook is under scrutiny for its business practices. There were big questions about the way the social platform operates but it all blew up when former employee-turned-whistleblower, Frances Haugen, disclosed thousands of internal documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission and The Wall Street Journal. Naturally, there has been a decline in the tech-giant’s goodwill with more people debating about its monopolistic activities.

And it seems like FB is reportedly trying to put aside the drama and rebrand itself as not just a social media company but wants to be known for building the metaverse. What is that? Metaverse is the ‘concept of a future iteration of the internet, made up of persistent, shared, 3D virtual spaces linked into a perceived virtual universe.’ But how? By changing up the name! And other things that we don’t know about yet. According to The Verge, Mark Zuckerberg will announce the new name at the company’s Connect conference on October 28.
Needless to say, the rumoured name change has sent the internet into a frenzy with Twitter dishing out suggestions and memes like the world depended on it. While ‘Facepalm’ seems to be a popular one among many, the rest can’t help but find humour in the fact that it wouldn’t entirely make a difference.
