Akshay Kumar can easily be dubbed the money-minting machine of Bollywood who churns out more movies in a year than most of his contemporaries. And I mean it as the highest order of compliment; yes quality does take a beating here and there but Khiladi Kumar makes it up with the varied projects he acts in and backs as a producer. If can’t put his money, he uses his mouth to sell it and how! Which is why even though he is waiting on four such releases–including Sooryavanshi, Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey, Ram Setu–he announced that he will be seen Gorkha, an upcoming biopic on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, a legendary officer of the Gorkha regiment of the Indian Army (5th Gorkha Rifles). In fact, he is collaborating with Aanand L Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions again after stacking his line-up with Atrangi Re and Raksha Bandhan.

The actor even took to social media to announce the biopic and wrote, “Sometimes you come across stories so inspiring that you just want to make them. #Gorkha – on the life of legendary war hero, Major General Ian Cardozo is one such film. Honoured to essay the role of an icon and present this special film.” He even shared two posters of the film that promises to document the life of the war hero and his contribution to the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 and others.

However, even with noble intentions, the makers got one thing wrong – the khukri that is most famed for use in the military. Says who? Ex-Gorkha officer Manik M Jolly who pointed out the mistake and tweeted, “Dear @akshaykumar ji, as an ex Gorkha officer, my thanks to you for making this movie. However, details matter. Kindly get the Khukri right. The sharp edge is on the other side. It is not a sword. Khukri strikes from inner side of blade.”

Many others also took the opportunity to slam Bollywood and its infamous ways of appropriating and doing things with research gaps.

But rest assured it is going be taken care of doing the shooting. Akshay Kumar said so himself while acknowledging the mistake pointed out by the ex-officer. He replied saying, “Dear Maj Jolly, thank you so much for pointing this out. We’ll take utmost care while filming. I’m very proud and honoured to be making Gorkha. Any suggestions to get it closest to reality would be most appreciated.”

Here’s hoping attention to detail is better than the last time. Presented by Akshay Kumar and Colour Yellow Productions in association with Cape of Good Films, Gorkha is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma. It is directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan who has co-written the script with Neeraj Yadav.

Meanwhile, here’s when films like Sooryavanshi, Bachchan Pandey and others are releasing.
