As India accomplishes a year of immunisation against COVID-19, it is preparing to embark on a new phase by launching a vaccine programme for teenagers as well as preventative doses for healthcare professionals and the elderly.

The vaccine drive for 15-18-year-olds will begin on January 3, with precautionary shots for healthcare professionals and 60+ individuals with comorbidities starting on January 10. According to data, around 6 crore healthcare personnel, frontline workers, and 60+ adults would be eligible for immunization during this phase of the campaign.

On January 1, 2022, the registration procedure for receiving the dosage will begin. However, according to the health ministry’s criteria, only qualified citizens would acquire the third dose.

Booking slot for teens

Children’s booking slots will be available to book beginning January 3. Students can utilise government-issued papers such as Aadhaar cards and passports. They could also utilize their student identification cards. According to the Ministry of Health, children can be registered onsite by a verifier/vaccinator in the streamlined registration option. Bookings can also be made over the phone or in person (walk-in). They must provide documentation of their appointment as well as their identification card on the day of the immunisation.

Booking slot for 60+ adults

The recipient will need to bring the certificate of comorbidities, as well as other documentation, to the immunisation clinic for the preventive dosage. They will not be required to upload anything when reserving the time window. Two very different online and onsite enrollment options are available.

What is the eligibility for booster shots?

According to the guidelines and regulation, these residents will be eligible for booster doses based on the date of the second dosage, as registered in the CoWIN database. When the third vaccination dosage is due, the CoWIN system will automatically send an SMS to remind you to obtain it. According to the recommendations, the third dosage should be given to people who have been on the second dose for nine months (39 weeks) or more. If you took the second dosage lately, you may not be eligible (at first) for the booster shots since individuals who have recently finished nine months will be offered priority.
