Jiangsu province in East China handled over 1,800 trips of the China-Europe freight train in 2021, recording an increase of 29 per cent year over year, as per the data released by the provincial department of transportation. The province added 7 new routes for China-Europe freight trains last year including the Nanjing-Tilburg and Suzhou-Helsinki services.
In all, goods worth 25.6 billion yuan (approximately $4 billion) were transported between the two regions, a rise of 67.7 per cent from 2020.
The freight train route between China and Europe had started operating back in 2011 and has since become a crucial link for trade and economic cooperation in Eurasia, as per Chinese media reports.
