Bollywood celebrities enjoy a huge fan following in our country, and if you’re one of those obsessed with Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma’s cute PDA on social media, Katrina Kaif-Vicky Kaushal’s marriage or Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt’s sizzling chemistry, then you may actually be less intelligent as compared to others. And it’s not us suggesting this fact, but we’re just reporting what a new study by Hungarian academics published in BMC Psychology claim.

The study asserts the fact that ‘there is a direct association between celebrity worship and poorer performance on cognitive tests’. So if you are obsessed with A-listers and the gossips related to them, think twice.

According to the study, nearly 1,763 Hungarian adults participated in the vocabulary test which even included a ‘Celebrity Attitude Scale’, which included questions related to their favourite celebrity. And to everyone’s surprise, the ones who scored high on Celebrity Attitude Scale ended up receiving low grades on the other two cognitive ability tests.

While it still remains unclear why celebrity lovers ended up with low cognitive results, researchers stated that need to study more. “Future studies should seek further support for our suggestion that the cognitive effort invested in maintaining the absorption in a favourite celebrity may interfere with the person’s performance in tasks that require attention and other cognitive skills,” the researchers told PsyPost during a conversation.
