Apple launched a new security feature called Security Lockout mode which allows the users to reset and wipe out the data of their locked iPhones and iPads without connecting to a PC or Mac.

The company released this feature with the iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2 update this week. The latest iOS version includes the ‘Erase Device’ option that makes it easy for users to reset their iOS devices. Also, this Security Lockout mode prevents strangers from accessing your data.

When the user fails to enter the passcode even after several attempts, this feature comes into play and erases the data for safety concerns. However, your device must be connected to WiFi or a cellular network to enable the reset process.

Previously, users need to connect their iPhone or iPad to a PC or Mac for erasing the data and resetting the device.

Here are the steps you need to follow to reset your iPhone or iPad –

  1. Click on the ‘Erase Device’ option at the bottom corner of the screen which comes after several wrong passcode attempts.
  2. Tap confirm and enter your Apple ID and password to sign out your Apple ID on your device.
  3. Now, tap ‘Erase Device’ to initiate the resetting process.
  4. After a while, your device restarts and you’re good to go.

Nevertheless, the users should keep in mind that the data will be completely wiped out and the device will be reset. Hence, it is recommended to back up the data and settings before proceeding with the Security Lockout mode.
