In 2026, romance is less about grand gestures and more about thoughtful action. A new Booking.com report suggests that what truly makes someone attractive today isn’t six-pack abs, luxury gifts, or flashy Valentine’s surprises, it’s a confirmed flight ticket and a carefully planned itinerary. The study highlights a shift in modern relationships, where partners who take initiative, plan ahead, and book meaningful travel experiences are seen as more desirable than those relying on traditional displays of wealth or looks.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, traditional romantic gestures like flowers and chocolates are steadily being replaced by something far more meaningful: travel. Booking.com’s “This Guy Books” study reveals that 86% of Indian travellers find it attractive when a partner surprises them with a fully planned getaway. In 2026, romance is less about candlelight dinners and more about confirmed bookings, with digital boarding passes becoming the new love letters.

The report also highlights a clear expectation gap. While 76% of Indian women believe men should take the lead in planning vacations, nearly 8% say they have never had a partner fully organise a trip for them. For many, initiative is more than a logistical gesture — it signals effort, intention and emotional investment. In fact, 91% of women say they want their partners to show more initiative in romantic gestures this year, with travel planning topping the list.
Attraction, the study suggests, now goes beyond looks or grand displays of wealth. A striking 92% of women find it attractive when a partner takes charge of booking travel, while 82% would prefer someone who plans thoughtful experiences over someone with just a good physique. Nearly all respondents, 99%, say they would likely show extra affection if their partner booked a vacation without being asked. Thoughtfulness, reliability and emotional effort have clearly overtaken flashy gestures.
Despite the clear romantic upside, hesitation remains. Some partners admit they don’t know where to start, worry about getting plans wrong, or are simply used to the other person handling logistics. Yet the message from the data is simple: perfection isn’t required, effort is. Women report feeling more loved, excited and valued when their partner handles travel plans, proving that a thoughtfully booked trip isn’t just a holiday, but a powerful emotional investment in the relationship.
