Rupee has been on a rollercoaster ride, mostly spiraling for the era some dub as ‘amrutkaal’ and others as ‘true independence.’ At the time of press (15:15) on December 3, 2025, the INR vs USD stands at 90.14, which is a historic low. The Indian currency slumped to its intraday lowest against the American Dollar at 90.25 before slightly recovering.
Per forex traders, as reported by various media, the INR crumbled in the wake of FII outflows and a decline in the domestic equity market amid the absence of an Indo-US trade deal, as Trump’s tariff is far from being resolved. Earlier on Tuesday (Dec 2, 2025), the Indian currency closed at an all-time low against the USD at 89.96.
Meanwhile, netizens shared Modi’s speech while campaigning for PM, taking a jibe at the government for the depreciation of INR. He quipped,
Ese nahi hota bhaiyo. Bangladesh ki currency nahi girti hai. Pakistan ki currency nahi girti hai. Sri Lanka ki currency nahi girti. kya karan hai Hindustan ka rupaiya kachha hota ja raha hai? Desh aapse jawab maang raha hai!
(This doesn’t make sense. Bangladesh’s currency never spirals. Pakistan’s currency doesn’t fall. Sri Lanka’s currency doesn’t crash. Then why does Indian currency? The nation wants to know.)
“मैं शासन में बैठा हूँ मित्रों, रुपया इतनी तेज़ी से गिर नहीं सकता
नेपाल बांग्लादेश पाकिस्तान श्रीलंका की करेंसी नहीं गिरती – क्या कारण है हिंदुस्तान का रुपया पतला होता जा रहा है”

Meanwhile, the internet erupted. Opposition leader from the Indian National Congress party, Supriya Shrinate, jibed, “लो भाई हो गया. अबकी बार, 90 पार. लगता है मोदी जी शतक लगवा कर ही मानेंगे! (Now Modi ji won’t budge until it strikes a century).
One user posted a Nirmala Sitharaman meme stating, “Once a legend said, “The rupee is not weakening; the dollar is just strengthening.””
A currency depreciation apologist quipped, “For people who don’t understand economics: This is not entirely negative news, and I am sure this is being done by the Government itself. This looks like a countermeasure to offset the effect of tariffs. As the rupee becomes cheaper, the exports become more competitive.”
A third user remarked, “Rupee at 90+? Good news!? Twitter payouts just got a salary hike for Indians without Elon even knowing.”
Yet another user commented, “Perfect time for freelancing.”
Several users on X/Twitter reacted with memes over the INR vs USD performance. Here are a few for your chuckling pleasure.
