The wait is finally over! After more than six years, Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh have finally returned with the sequel to their 2019 film De De Pyaar De. Directed by Anshul Sharma, the film is written by Luv Ranjan, Tarun Jain, and co-produced by T-Series & Luv Ranjan. It stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, R Madhavan, Jaaved Jaaferi, Meezaan Jafri, Gautami Kapoor, Ishita Dutta, Tarun Gehlot, Sanjeev Seth, Suhasini Mulay, Gracy Goswami, and others.
De De Pyaar De 2 starts with Ashish (Ajay Devgn) and Aisha (Rakul Preet Singh) moving into their new house in London. Ronak (Jaaved Jaaferi), who accompanies them, breaks the fourth wall and gives the audience a flashback of everything that happens in the first film. Soon, it is seen that Aisha is gearing up to go back home to Chandigarh as her sister-in-law Kittu (Ishita Dutta) is all set to give birth. It is revealed that she wants to tell her family about her relationship with Ashish after the baby is born, so that the blow gets cushioned.

We are introduced to her “educated, progressive” parents, R Madhavan and Gautami Kapoor, who never shy away from expressing love for each other. As we get used to the family dynamics, Kittu accidentally reveals Aisha’s relationship with Ashish. They interrogate her, and she reveals details about his age, his divorce, and his being a father, while leaving out key details. The “modern” parents ask her to invite him.
Ashish arrives, and introductions happen. The parents who call each other Rajji try to interrogate him about his life. After they realise that Aisha might have lied to them, they get details about Ashish from a private investigator. Enraged about being lied to, Aisha and her parents have a fallout. They make a plan to show that they have accepted them, but secretly call their friend’s son Adi (Meezaan) so he can woo Aisha.
After realising what her parents are planning to do by pushing Adi and Aisha together, will Ashish let her go? Will Aisha realise what her parents are doing? What will happen next forms the crux of the film.
With the movie having been released on the big screens today, let’s take a look at whether the movie is worth your watch or if you can skip it and watch it on Netflix later.

Given the fate of Bollywood comedy films at the box office this year, I was sceptical to know how De De Pyaar De 2 might fare. Would the jokes be outdated, cracking the same stereotypical one-liners about the huge age gap between Aisha and Ashish? I was, however, proved wrong.
The makers made sure to properly flesh out the story, the characters, and their arcs perfectly. They maintained a fresh balance between comedic quips and meta references that he audience will quickly latch onto. From referencing DDLJ, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Shaitaan, and other films, to bringing in quick references about the actors’ real-life relationships, like Ajay and Kajol’s and Jaaved and Meezan, it leaves you giddy with excitement, knowing that you are catching onto what the writers were trying to do. The meta references mentioned in the film will surely be loved by the Millennials and the Gen Z.
Speaking about the actors and their performances, everyone made sure to bring in a different flavour of their own. While R Madhavan’s cunningness makes you chuckle, Meezaan’s loverboy persona makes you want to pinch his cheeks. Ajay and Rakul bring a balance of calm and chaos in the film. Frankly speaking, Rakul’s portrayal of the loud-mouthed Aisha was like a breath of fresh air, quite different from the meek or over-sexualised female characters we have been getting for quite some time now.
From the songs to the background music, the makers make sure that you are hooked to the film from the beginning to the end. Personally, there were a few instances in the second half of the film where I felt a bit bored. But it was entertaining for the majority of the audience.
If you are free this weekend, and want to unwind from the stress, do go watch it in theatres and enjoy with your family and friends. You can also wait and watch it on Netflix when it is released in the next few months.
