Salman Khan is known for preferring that the women he works with dress modestly on set, insisting on avoiding short clothes and low necklines for what he calls “safety” reasons, despite his films often featuring revealing item numbers. In a recent conversation with Hauterfly, actress Daisy Shah, who debuted opposite him in Jai Ho, shared insights into how Salman maintains what he considers a safe environment for women on his sets.
Daisy Shah stated that the superstar does not like them being shown as “showpieces.” She said, “For him, ladki ko jitna dhakoge, utni hi zyada sundar dikhegi (a woman will look more beautiful if you cover her up).”
Recalling an incident from her debut film Jai Ho, Daisy shared how Salman intervened over her outfit. “There was this one outfit that I was supposed to wear… This was supposed to be a scene in the morning when I had just woken up. He found my dress to be a little weird, so he said, ‘Cover her in a blanket.’ According to him, that nightdress was a little too short,” she explained.
This isn’t the first time Salman’s stance on women’s clothing has come up. Earlier, Palak Tiwari had also disclosed his rules while working as an AD on Antim. She recalled, “When I was AD-ing with Salman sir on Antim, Salman sir had a rule: ‘Every girl on my set, the neckline should be here, all the girls should be covered, like good proper girls’.”
Palak further clarified that his outlook comes from a sense of protectiveness. “He’s a traditionalist. Of course, he’s like, ‘Jo pehenna hai pehno,’ but he’s also like, ‘My girls should always be protected.’ If there are men around whom he doesn’t personally know, it’s not his personal space where he doesn’t trust everyone; he’s like, the girl should be safe, always.” Meanwhile, Salman Khan has begun shooting for Battle of Galwan in Ladakh, a war drama based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, featuring Chitrangda Singh alongside a strong ensemble cast.
