Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap often takes to his official social media handles to share his opinions on the movies made by Bollywood. Known for never shying away from calling a spade a spade, his unabashed statements are lauded by the netizens., On Saturday, he heaped praises on Shazia Iqbal’s directorial debut Dhadak 2, comparing the movie to the likes of legendary veteran filmmakers Raj Kapoor, Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt, K A Abbas, B R Chopra, and Yash Chopra.
Taking to his Instagram handle, he shared Dhadak 2’s poster as well as a few photos from the film and penned a long note hailing the filmmakers for attempting to make a film that holds a “mirror to us of what India really is.” He also heaped praises on the “terrific performances” by Siddhanth Chaturvedi, Triptii Dimri, Saurabh Sachdev, Saad Bilgrami, Manjiri Pupala, among many others.

Expressing how today’s filmmakers have forgotten to make mainstream movies of “social relevance,” he added, “The film captures the conversation that we avoid on a day-to-day basis. This is what mainstream cinema was meant to be, and this is what great filmmakers like Raj Kapoor, Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt, K A Abbas, B R Chopra, Yash Chopra, and so many used to do. We forgot to make mainstream films of social relevance. They got relegated to independent art house cinema. This is what Tamizh cinema and so much of cinema from south still does.”
He concluded the post by wrote, “A mainstream adaptation of Periyarum Perumal, without losing the essence of it, Dhadak 2 is a punch in the gut. My driver who went with me wept at the end of it and hasn’t stopped talking since . An extremely brave and powerful film from @dharmamovies . See it for yourself . I won’t say much . Written and directed by debutant Shazia Iqbal, Dhadak 2 stars Siddhant Chaturvedi, Triptii Dimri in lead roles. For those who don’t know, Dhadak 2 follows the journey of Siddhanth and Triptii’s characters Neelesh and Vidhi as they try to navigate their relationship through the harsh realities of their societies. A remake of the Tamil 2018 film Pariyerum Perumal, Dhadak 2 is a spiritual sequel to Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter starrer Dhadak (2018). Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film released on August 1, 2025.
