In December 2021, the ESA Ariane 5 rocket from Kourou launched the James Webb Telescope, the most powerful telescope in the world. We’ve all been waiting for JWST’s first coloured images, and the time has finally come.

Nasa’s Webb Telescope will release its first ever colourful images in July, specifically on July 12th. Before it can begin science work, the telescope will go through a six-month setup phase in which it will calibrate its instruments to the outer- space environment and position the mirrors, NASA stated in a release.

‘This meticulous process, combined with years of technological improvements and mission planning, has resulted in the first images and data” US agency stated.

According to NASA, the early images will undoubtedly reflect the mission’s inspiration and themes, which include analysing the origins of the universe, the evolution of galaxies over time, the life – cycle of stars, and some other worlds.

Webb is one of the most expensive scientific telescope ever built, costing NASA nearly $10 billion, approx. RS 7,000 crore. These images will be captured in infrared and colourised for public consumption. They will be first in full colour and will demonstrate the telescope’s full scientific ability.
