I miss the days when pineapple pizza was the most debated food combination. That feels like a distant memory amidst all the fusion recipes shared on the internet of late. Indians, in particular, have seen the most diverse range of experiments and the result is visuals of everything between oreo pakodas and chocolate frizzled paan brownies going viral. When will this end? Probably never considering a new recipe is doing the rounds. Enter – ‘Chowmein Golgappa’. I wish I was making this up.

Golgappa (or pani puri, we don’t judge) is easily one of the most accessible snacks in the country. The dish is made with a bunch of stuffings placed in a crispy puri and dipped into refreshing flavoured water, a street food staple. A Lucknow vendor decided to give the classic his own spin. In a recipe called ‘Chowmein Golgappa’, he took desi Chinese to a whole new level. For the uninitiated, desi Chinese is an Indianised way of cooking Chinese dishes with local spices.

What’s in it? In a now-viral video, the street food vendor added a mix of potato, spices and sauces along with noodles. As if that wasn’t puzzling enough, he also added sweet sauce, curd with a garnish comprising of red and green jelly bits alongside coriander leaves. This golgappa plate from hell was served with a side of red and green chutney. If you’re still reading after the barrage of terrible information, check out the video shared by RJ Rohan captioned “Hello Friends Ulti karlo,” here:

A user commented, “bas ab yahi reh gaya tha” in the comments section which is full of disgusted netizens. To be frank, the vendor didn’t have to come up with this concoction, golgappa stalls seem to always be in business across the country. So the fact that this was a passion project and not a product of necessity makes this incident harder to digest.
