India’s merchandise export in December last year was worth $37.29 billion, the highest ever monthly achievement and an increase of 37 per cent over $27.22 billion in December 2020 and a rise of 37.55 per cent over $27.11 billion in December 2019. The trade deficit in December 2021 was $21.99 billion, while it was $143.97 billion during April-December 2021.

Merchandise import in December 2021 was worth $59.27 billion, an increase of 38.06 per cent over $42.93 billion in December 2020 and a rise of of 49.7 per cent over $39.59 billion in December 2019, an official release said citing preliminary data for December 2021.

India exported $1439.44 million worth of cotton yarn, fabrics, madeups, handloom products, etc, in December 2021, up 45.73 per cent from December 2020. RMG of all textiles was also one of the top 10 items in the month, as the total value exported amounted to $1460.36 million, a growth of 22.13 per cent from $1195.78 million in December 2020.

India’s merchandise export in April-December 2021 was worth $299.74 billion, an increase of 48.85 per cent over $201.37 billion in April-December 2020 and a rise of 25.8 per cent over $238.27 billion in April-December 2019.

India’s merchandise import in April-December 2021 was worth $443.71 billion, an increase of 69.27 per cent over $262.13 billion in April-December 2020 and an increase of 21.84 per cent over $364.18 billion in April-December 2019.

Value of non-petroleum exports in December 2021 was $31.67 billion, registering a growth of 27.31 per cent over similar exports of $24.88 billion in December 2020 and a growth of 34.92 per cent over similar exports worth $23.48 billion in December 2019.

Value of non-petroleum imports was worth $43.37 billion in December 2021 with a growth of 30.22 per cent over similar imports worth $33.31 billion in December 2020 and a growth of 50.2 per cent over non-petroleum imports of $28.88 billion in December 2019.
