The IPL was suspended on May 9, following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, which led to the abandonment of a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala after just 10.1 overs. The suspension prompted most overseas players to leave India the same evening, creating logistical challenges for the BCCI and franchises. The board has now instructed teams to coordinate the return of these foreign players, keeping the BCCI informed of their availability and travel plans. Franchises are making special arrangements to ensure their overseas stars can rejoin their squads promptly.

“All franchises have been told to inform its team to report to their respective destination by Tuesday. Punjab will have a neutral venue, so their destination is yet to be confirmed. The board is planning to have more double headers so that they can finish the IPL as per its scheduled day,” a source within the BCCI told The Indian Express.

The BCCI has shortlisted Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad as the primary venues to host the remaining 16 matches, which include 12 league games and four playoff fixtures. A revised schedule is expected to be released on Sunday night, incorporating more double headers to ensure the tournament concludes on time. However, the final, originally scheduled for May 25 in Kolkata, may be postponed to May 30 due to the week-long suspension.
The situation is particularly complex for Punjab Kings, whose home venues – Chandigarh and Dharamsala – are deemed unsuitable due to security concerns. The BCCI is yet to finalise a neutral venue for the franchise’s remaining matches, adding another layer of uncertainty.
