Indian pace ace Jasprit Bumrah added another milestone to his illustrious career on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian cricketer ever to claim 100 wickets each in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. The achievement came during the opening T20I against South Africa in Cuttack, where India produced a commanding 101-run victory.
Bumrah is now only the fifth player in world cricket to reach the elite 100-wicket mark across all three international formats.
Historic Moment Arrives in 11th Over
The landmark wicket occurred on the second ball of the 11th over when Bumrah dismissed Dewald Brevis for 22. Bowling a short delivery outside off, Bumrah induced a miscued shot from Brevis, resulting in a simple catch for Suryakumar Yadav at cover.
While the dismissal marked Bumrah’s 110th T20I wicket, it wasn’t free of controversy. Social media users questioned whether the pacer had overstepped. The on-field umpires referred the matter upstairs, but the third umpire ruled that part of Bumrah’s foot was behind the line, deeming it a fair delivery.

Even if the ball had been called a no-ball, the milestone would not have been delayed for long, Bumrah struck again just three balls later, removing Keshav Maharaj for his second wicket of the match.
Hardik Pandya’s Blazing Knock Powers India to Strong Total
India earlier posted 175/6, thanks largely to a spectacular knock from Hardik Pandya, who was playing his first international match since recovering from a quadriceps injury. The stand-in captain hammered an unbeaten 59 off 28 deliveries, hitting six fours and four sixes. Support came from Tilak Varma (26) and Axar Patel (23), ensuring India recovered strongly after early setbacks.
South Africa’s bowling effort was led by Lungi Ngidi (3/31) and Lutho Sipamla (2/38), who kept India in check during the powerplay before Pandya’s late onslaught shifted momentum.
South Africa Collapse to Lowest-Ever T20I Score
Chasing 176, South Africa crumbled under relentless Indian bowling, folding for 74 in 12.3 overs, their lowest total in T20I history. Brevis top-scored with 22, but no batter managed to offer resistance as India dominated every phase of the innings.
India’s bowlers shared the spoils:
- Arshdeep Singh: 2/14
- Varun Chakaravarthy: 2/19
- Jasprit Bumrah: 2/17
- Axar Patel: 2/7
- Shivam Dube: 1/1
- Hardik Pandya: 1/16
A Night of Records and Dominance
With Bumrah etching his name into history and India delivering a clinical performance, the Men in Blue now lead the five-match series 1-0. The victory also underscores India’s depth and readiness as they build toward future white-ball tournaments.
